"Tracking Transience: The Orwell Project"
http://elahi.rutgers.edu/track/
Tracking Transience is a database work which is compiled from an ongoing
project where the artist has used technology originally intended for alternate
purposes to time-stamp his own life during
daily performative tasks. After being reported to the FBI in 2002, he spent
the next six months justifying each and every second of his existence and
after repeated interrogations and polygraphs, to the relief of his friends
and family (and himself), he is no longer considered a terrorist threat.
The web companion to the work shown here monitors the artist in near real-time
and pinpoints exactly where he is at all times and showing his activities.
In this process, he aims to make every detail about himself completely
transparent to demonstrate
how invasive the new Homeland Security and Patriot Act laws in the United
States are and to bring to light the political ramifications of such a
project and its repercussions on an individual level, using himself as
subject..
